The Union Territory of Puducherry hosts Pondicherry University, a central university established in 1985 with main campus in Puducherry and additional campuses in Karaikal and Port Blair. Pondicherry University offers programmes across humanities, sciences, social sciences, management and engineering.
UG and PG admissions to Pondicherry University and other central institutions in the UT are via CUET UG and CUET PG respectively. Pondicherry University also conducts its own entrance for select PhD and PG diploma programmes. State-funded medical seats follow NEET UG/NEET PG counselling.
