About Pondicherry University

Pondicherry University is a public central university established by an Act of Parliament in October 1985 with the headquarters at Kalapet, Puducherry. It serves the Union Territory of Puducherry and surrounding regions, with constituent campuses at Karaikal (Puducherry UT) and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The 800-acre main campus on the East Coast Road is one of the few central university campuses with a private beachfront.

The university has 15 schools comprising over 35 departments offering UG, PG, integrated, M.Phil. and PhD programmes across humanities, performing arts, sciences, social sciences, management, education, law, engineering & technology, medicine (Sri Venkateswara Medical College affiliations) and life sciences. It also coordinates UG, PG and PhD programmes through 90+ affiliated colleges in Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.

Most Pondicherry University UG and PG admissions are conducted through CUET UG and CUET PG, with a separate university counselling/registration on admissions.pondiuni.edu.in after the CUET results. Some PhD programmes have a separate Pondicherry University PhD entrance.

Eligibility

UG (CUET UG): Class 10+2 from a recognised board with at least 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST/PwBD), with subject requirements as per the chosen programme. PG (CUET PG): Bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline with at least 50% (45% for SC/ST/PwBD). PhD: Master's with 55%+ (50% with relaxation) and a qualifying UGC-NET / GATE / Pondicherry University PhD entrance score.
