About Assam University

Assam University (AU) is a Central University located at Silchar in the Barak Valley of Assam, established by the Assam (Central) University Act, 1989 of the Indian Parliament and made functional from 1994. The university serves the southern districts of Assam — Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi — alongside the wider North-Eastern region, with a second campus at Diphu (Karbi Anglong).

Assam University offers UG, PG, M.Phil and Ph.D programmes across humanities, social sciences, sciences, commerce, management, engineering (B.Tech, B.Pharm, BA LLB), and education through 16 schools and 41 departments. Admission to UG and PG programmes is conducted through CUET UG and CUET PG (NTA), respectively, with the university also using the Assam State Higher Education Admission Portal (Samarth) for several state-quota seats.

CUET UG 2026 is being conducted from 11 to 31 May 2026 by NTA. The Assam University 2026-27 admission notification, programme list and counselling schedule are released on the official portals at aus.ac.in and ausadm.samarth.edu.in.

Eligibility

UG: 10+2 from a recognised board with the prescribed subject combination plus a valid CUET UG score. PG: Bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline with the minimum aggregate; CUET PG score. Ph.D: Master's degree with 55% (50% reserved); university entrance / NET-JRF / GATE.

   Apply for CUET UG / CUET PG
   Register on cuet.nta.nic.in (UG) or cuetpg.nta.nic.in (PG), select Assam University as a preferred university, choose subjects / domain papers and pay the application fee.
2. 2
   Appear for CUET
   CUET UG 2026 is being conducted from 11 to 31 May 2026. CUET PG dates are released separately by NTA.

   Register on Assam University Samarth portal
   Once CUET scorecard is released, register on ausadm.samarth.edu.in, upload academic documents, photo and category certificates, and pay the application fee (₹400 General / ₹200 SC/ST).
4. 4
   Counselling and admission
   Participate in AU online counselling, exercise programme preferences and confirm allotment by paying the admission fee at the Silchar / Diphu campus.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for eligible candidates at this university.

Central Sector Scholarship, North-East Region scholarships, SC/ST/OBC/EWS post-matric scholarships, AU merit-based scholarships and tribal area awards.

Reservations

Central University reservation: SC 15%, ST 7.5%, OBC-NCL 27%, EWS 10%; PwBD 5% horizontal. Assam state quota and tribal area weightage as per Central University norms.
