About Rabindranath Tagore University
Rabindranath Tagore University (RTU), also known as Rabindranath Thakur Vishwavidyalaya, is a state university located in Hojai district of Assam, established by the Rabindranath Thakur Vishwavidyalaya Act, XXXIV of 2017 of the Assam Legislative Assembly. The university serves the Hojai and adjoining districts as the principal affiliating university and is named after Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, reflecting the longstanding cultural and literary connection between Tagore and Assam.
RTU offers UG programmes in Humanities, Science and Commerce — BA, BA (Hons), B.Com (Hons), B.Sc (Hons), Integrated BBA-MBA, BHM (Hotel & Hospitality Management) — and PG programmes including MA. Admission to the four-year UG programmes (FYUG) for 2026-27 is via the SAMARTH portal in order of merit.
