About Shaheed Mahendra Karma Vishwavidyalaya, Bastar
Shaheed Mahendra Karma Vishwavidyalaya (SMKV), Bastar is a state university located at Dharampura, Jagdalpur in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, originally established in 2008 as Bastar Vishwavidyalaya and renamed to Shaheed Mahendra Karma Vishwavidyalaya in 2018 to honour the late Mahendra Karma — Congress leader and founder of the Salwa Judum movement. SMKV serves as the principal affiliating university for colleges across the seven Bastar division districts.
SMKV offers UG (BA, B.Sc, B.Com), PG (MA, M.Sc, M.Com) and Ph.D programmes through its constituent and affiliated colleges. UG and PG admission is largely on the merit of the qualifying examination, supplemented by CUET UG / CUET PG for select programmes; Ph.D admission uses the SMKV Research Entrance Test plus interview. The university has a special focus on tribal studies, tribal language documentation and rural / agricultural extension.
