About Indian Institute of Technology Delhi

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is an Institute of National Importance located in New Delhi, established in 1961 and granted the status of an Institute of National Importance through the Institutes of Technology Act. It is consistently ranked in the top 3 engineering institutions in India, with around 1,300 B.Tech seats spread across 17 departments and centres of excellence.

Undergraduate (B.Tech / Dual Degree) admission to IIT Delhi is conducted through JEE Advanced followed by JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counselling. Postgraduate M.Tech admissions are conducted through GATE + COAP, while M.Sc admissions use IIT JAM. PhD admissions follow a separate research entrance and interview process per department.

JEE Advanced is the entrance examination for admission to all IITs, including IIT Delhi. Only candidates who clear JEE Main and rank within the top 2,50,000 are eligible to appear. JoSAA counselling allocates seats across all 23 IITs based on JEE Advanced rank and choices filled.

How to Apply

    Qualify JEE Main and register for JEE Advanced
    Appear for JEE Main and rank in the top 2,50,000 (including category-wise reservation slots). Eligible candidates register for JEE Advanced on the official JEE Advanced portal of the conducting IIT and pay the application fee.

    Appear for JEE Advanced
    Download admit card, appear for JEE Advanced Paper 1 and Paper 2 in computer-based mode at your allotted centre. Both papers are mandatory.

    Check JEE Advanced result and AAT (if applying for B.Arch)
    JEE Advanced rank is published on the conducting IIT portal. Candidates aiming for B.Arch must additionally appear for the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT).

    Register and fill choices on JoSAA portal
    Register on the JoSAA portal, fill institute-branch choices in order of preference for IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs (over 100 institutes are part of JoSAA). Lock your choices before the deadline.

    Seat allotment and reporting at IIT Delhi
    After each JoSAA round, accept (Freeze / Slide / Float / Withdraw) the allotted seat. Pay the seat acceptance fee, complete document verification, and report at IIT Delhi on the orientation date with original documents.
