About Gujarat Vidyapith
Gujarat Vidyapith is a deemed-to-be university located at Ashram Road, Ahmedabad in Gujarat, founded on 18 October 1920 by Mahatma Gandhi during the Non-Cooperation Movement and conferred deemed-to-be university status in 1963 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Gujarat Vidyapith is one of the rare universities in India founded as part of the freedom struggle and is committed to Gandhian values, rural reconstruction and education through Indian languages.
Gujarat Vidyapith offers UG, PG, Diploma, PG Diploma and Ph.D programmes across humanities, social sciences, sciences, commerce, education, social work, journalism, library science, agriculture, rural management and Gandhian Studies. Admission is largely on the merit of the qualifying examination plus a programme-specific entrance / interview where required, with weightage to demonstrated commitment to Gandhian / rural-reconstruction values.
