About Swarnim Gujarat Sports University

Swarnim Gujarat Sports University (SGSU) is a state sports university located at Sector 15, Gandhinagar in Gujarat, established in 2011 by the SGSU Act, 2011 of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. SGSU is the first sports university in western India and is dedicated to higher education, training, research and policy in sports sciences, physical education, sports management and sports coaching.

SGSU offers UG (B.P.Ed, B.A. Physical Education, B.Sc Sports Sciences, BBA Sports Management), PG (M.P.Ed, M.A. Sports Management, M.Sc Sports Sciences) and Ph.D programmes alongside Diploma and Certificate courses for athletes, coaches and sports professionals. Admission is on the merit of past academic record plus physical fitness / sports proficiency tests and a personal interview, with weightage to performance in recognised national / international sporting events.

Eligibility

B.P.Ed / B.A. PE / B.Sc Sports Sciences / BBA Sports Management: 10+2 from a recognised board with the prescribed minimum aggregate (per NCTE / SAI norms) plus physical fitness and sports proficiency assessment. PG: Bachelor's in Physical Education / Sports / equivalent. Sportsperson supernumerary seats and Khelo India / SAI weightage where applicable.

How to Apply

   Read the SGSU notification
   Visit sgsu.gujarat.gov.in for the 2026-27 admission notification with programme list, eligibility and fitness criteria.

   Apply online
   Register on the SGSU online application portal, fill personal and academic details, upload Class 12 marksheets, sports / fitness records and pay the application fee.
3. 3
   Physical fitness / sports proficiency test + interview
   Attend the SGSU physical fitness / sports proficiency test plus personal interview on the date notified.
4. 4
   Counselling and admission
   Selected candidates pay the admission fee and report to the SGSU campus, Sector 15, Gandhinagar.

Scholarships are available for eligible candidates at this university.

SGSU sports merit awards, Gujarat State sports scholarships, Khelo India / SAI scholarships, SC/ST/SEBC/EWS post-matric scholarships through Digital Gujarat / NSP.

Reservations

Gujarat state reservation: SC 7%, ST 15%, SEBC 27%, EWS 10%; PwBD 5% horizontal. Sports quota and Khelo India / SAI weightage where applicable.
