About Shree Somnath Sanskrit University

Shree Somnath Sanskrit University (SSSU) is a state Sanskrit university located at Veraval (close to the Somnath temple) in Gir Somnath district of Gujarat, established in 2005 by the SSSU Act, 2005 of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. The university is dedicated to teaching, research and documentation of Sanskrit and Indian Knowledge Systems with a particular focus on the Vedic and Saivism traditions associated with Somnath.

SSSU offers Shastri (UG), Acharya (PG), Vidya Varidhi (Ph.D), Diploma and Certificate programmes in Sanskrit, Veda, Vyakaran, Sahitya, Darshan, Jyotish, Dharmashastra, Puranetihasa, Indian Philosophy and Yoga. UG and PG admission is largely on the merit of the qualifying examination plus the SSSU Common Entrance Test for select courses; Ph.D admission uses the SSSU Research Entrance plus interview.
