About Bangalore University
Bangalore University is a public state university located on Jnana Bharathi campus, Bengaluru, Karnataka. Established in 1964 by the Karnataka State Legislature through the Karnataka State Universities Act, the university grew out of Central College (Bengaluru) — itself founded in 1858 as one of the oldest higher-education institutions in southern India. Bangalore University serves the Bengaluru, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, and Tumkur regions with 350+ affiliated colleges.
Bangalore University has 40+ departments organised into faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, Law and Engineering. The 1,100-acre Jnana Bharathi campus hosts UG, PG, MPhil and PhD programmes across humanities, social sciences, sciences, mathematics, computer science, biotechnology, education, law and management (Canara Bank School of Management Studies). The university also operates a substantial distance-education programme.
Most Bangalore University UG and PG admissions are merit-based on qualifying-examination marks. MBA admissions follow KMAT/PGCET conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA); engineering programmes follow KCET. PhD admissions are through the BU PhD entrance plus interview. The university accepts applications online via bangaloreuniversity.karnataka.gov.in.
