Mangalore University is a public state university located at Mangalagangothri, on the outskirts of Mangaluru, Karnataka. Established on 10 September 1980 by the Karnataka State Legislature through the Karnataka State Universities Act, the university serves the coastal Karnataka region — Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kodagu districts — with 200+ affiliated colleges. The 354-acre Mangalagangothri campus is located near the historic temple town of Konaje.
Mangalore University has 30+ departments offering UG, PG, MPhil and PhD programmes across humanities, social sciences, sciences, mathematics, computer science, electronics, biosciences, chemistry, physics, geography, education, law, and management (PG Centre at Hampankatta). Affiliated colleges offer BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, BBA, BBM and other UG programmes. The Centre for Distance and Online Education extends the university's reach via online and distance modes.
Most Mangalore University UG and PG admissions are merit-based on qualifying-examination marks. MBA/MCA admissions follow PGCET/KMAT scores conducted by KEA. PhD admissions are through the Mangalore University PhD entrance plus interview. The university operates a strong distance-education programme through its directorate.
