About Mahatma Gandhi University
Mahatma Gandhi University, established on 2 October 1983 in Kottayam, is a state university serving the central Kerala districts of Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Pathanamthitta and parts of Alappuzha. Headquartered at Priyadarshini Hills in Athirampuzha, the university was named in honour of Mahatma Gandhi and was formed by carving out areas from the University of Kerala.
The university has 24 departments and over 300 affiliated colleges (arts, science, professional, training colleges). MGU is NAAC A++ accredited (2022) and has been ranked in the NIRF top 100 universities. Inter-University Centres for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and for Biosciences are flagship research hubs. The Mar Athanasius College of Engineering (Kothamangalam), the School of International Relations and Politics and the School of Management are well known.
UG admissions to affiliated colleges are through the centralised CAP based on Plus Two marks. PG admissions at the university departments are through the CEE Kerala-conducted MG University CAT or own entrance, with CUET PG accepted for select programmes. State reservation policy applies.
