About Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University
Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University (TEMU), established in 2012 by the Government of Kerala (the TEMU Act 2012), is a unique state university dedicated to the study of the Malayalam language, literature and Kerala culture. Located at Tirur in Malappuram district — the birthplace of Thunchath Ezhuthachan, the father of modern Malayalam literature — the university began its first batch of students in 2013.
The university has six schools — School of Malayalam Language, School of Letters, School of Culture and Visual Studies, School of Knowledge Systems, School of Translation Studies, and School of Performing Arts. It offers MA, MPhil and PhD programmes in Malayalam, Translation, Theatre, Comparative Literature, Folklore and Linguistics. NAAC B+ accredited.
Admissions through TEMU PG Entrance for MA programmes, and direct interviews for MPhil/PhD with research proposal. CUET PG accepted for select departments. State reservation applies (SC 8%, ST 2%, SEBC, EWS 10%).
