About University of Kerala
The University of Kerala, established on 1 November 1937 as the University of Travancore, is one of the oldest universities in India and the first in Kerala. Founded by Maharaja Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma of Travancore, it was renamed the University of Kerala in 1957 after the formation of the state of Kerala. The main campus is at Palayam (Senate House) and Kariavattom in Thiruvananthapuram, with affiliated colleges spread across Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts.
The university offers postgraduate and research programmes through 43 departments organised into 16 faculties covering arts, science, commerce, management, education, engineering, applied sciences, oriental studies, Ayurveda and law. Affiliated colleges offer UG courses (BA, BSc, BCom, BBA, BCA). The university is NAAC A++ accredited (2022) and is recognised as a Category I (Graded Autonomy) university by the UGC.
Admissions to PG programmes are through the CEE Kerala-conducted Kerala University CAT (KU-CAT) or through CUET PG for select programmes. UG admissions to affiliated colleges are through centralised allotment by the university based on Plus Two marks. The university follows the Kerala state reservation policy with SEBC, SC, ST, Ezhava, Muslim and other category quotas.
