About The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University
Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), established in 2007 by the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Act 2007 (operational from 2008), is a Central University with a special focus on the academic and applied research needs of the tribal population of India. Headquartered at Amarkantak in Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh, the university takes its name from former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and is the only Central University dedicated to tribal studies.
IGNTU has 31 departments organised into faculties of Tribal Studies, Languages, Social Sciences, Sciences, Education, Commerce & Management, Engineering & Technology, Tourism & Hospitality, Performing Arts & Indigenous Knowledge. It offers UG, PG, MPhil, PhD and integrated programmes. The university has Regional Campuses at Imphal (Manipur) and Thiruvananthapuram. NAAC accredited and recognised under UGC Section 12(B).
UG admissions through CUET UG, PG through CUET PG, and PhD through CUET PhD or own department entrance. Central reservation policy applies with additional emphasis on tribal candidates — ST seats are filled in accordance with UGC norms (7.5% base, plus IGNTU has a tribal-focused mandate).
