About Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU), established in 1958 as Marathwada University and renamed in 1994 in honour of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar — the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and the most influential figure in the Dalit movement, who studied at the original Marathwada College in Aurangabad. Located at Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), the university serves the Marathwada region of Maharashtra (8 districts including Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Latur, Osmanabad, Nanded, Hingoli, Parbhani).
BAMU has 53 teaching departments organised into multiple faculties — Arts, Social Sciences, Sciences, Commerce, Management, Engineering, Law, Education, Pharmacy and Medicine. It affiliates 450+ colleges across the Marathwada region. NAAC A grade accredited. The Department of Ambedkar Studies and the Centre for Marathwada Studies are research focal points.
