About Central Institute of Fisheries Education
Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), established in 1961 as the apex fisheries training institute and declared a Deemed-to-be University in 1989 under the UGC Act, is the premier fisheries research and education institute of India. Located at Off Yari Road, Versova, Mumbai, CIFE operates under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
CIFE has 8 academic divisions — Aquaculture, Fish Genetics & Biotechnology, Fish Health Management, Fish Nutrition & Biochemistry, Fish Processing Technology, Fishery Economics, Fishery Hydrography & Statistics, and Social Sciences. Regional centres at Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), Powarkheda (MP) and Rohtak (Haryana). Offers MSc, MFSc, MTech, PhD in Aquaculture and Fisheries — fully residential programmes. ICAR-accredited.
Admissions to PG/PhD programmes through ICAR AIEEA PG / AICE-JRF and ICAR JRF/SRF. No UG programmes (CIFE is PG/research-only). Foreign students via ICAR / MEA fellowships.
