About Defence Institute of Advanced Technology
Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), established in 1952 as the Institute of Armament Studies and Examinations (Kirkee) and renamed several times before becoming DIAT in 2006, was declared a Deemed-to-be University in 2000 under the UGC Act. Located at Girinagar, Pune, DIAT is wholly funded by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, Government of India. The institute trains scientists and engineers for the Indian armed forces and DRDO.
DIAT has 11 departments — Aerospace Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Electronics Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Modelling & Simulation, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Cyber Security, and Department of Technology Management. Offers MTech (13 specialisations), MSc (3 streams), MPhil and PhD programmes. Defence personnel comprise a significant portion of the student body alongside civilian researchers.
Admissions to MTech through GATE; MSc through DIAT-conducted entrance; PhD through DIAT-conducted entrance + interview. Defence sponsored candidates have parallel admission tracks through DRDO/Ministry of Defence nominations.
