About Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research
Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), established in 1987 by the Reserve Bank of India and declared a Deemed-to-be University in 1995, is an autonomous research institute focused on development economics. Located at Goregaon East, Mumbai, IGIDR was founded under the inspiration of Dr. C. Rangarajan (then RBI Governor) and was named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The institute is a leading academic institution for postgraduate research in economics and finance.
IGIDR offers MSc Economics, MPhil-PhD Integrated Programme in Development Studies, and PhD programmes. The institute is renowned for research in development economics, public finance, monetary economics, macroeconomic policy, environmental economics and trade. Faculty members frequently advise the RBI, Ministry of Finance and the Government of India. NAAC accredited.
Admissions through IGIDR Entrance Examination + interview. MSc programme admits students with Plus Two background; MPhil-PhD admits with bachelor (5-year integrated) or master degree. Mathematics/Statistics/Economics background strongly preferred. Limited intake.
