About Savitribai Phule Pune University
Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), formerly the University of Pune, is a public state university located on Ganeshkhind Road in Pune, Maharashtra. Established by the Bombay Government in 1949 and renamed in 2014 in honour of social reformer Savitribai Phule, SPPU is one of the largest universities in India by enrolment, anchoring a network of 700+ affiliated colleges across Pune, Ahilyanagar (formerly Ahmednagar) and Nashik districts.
SPPU has 46 university departments organised into 7 faculties — Arts, Commerce, Science, Management, Mental Moral & Social Sciences, Law, and Engineering & Technology. The 411-acre main campus hosts UG, PG, MPhil and PhD programmes including the highly-regarded Department of Computer Science, Department of Statistics, Department of Atmospheric and Space Sciences, IUCAA-affiliated programmes in astronomy, and the SPPU Pune University Centre for Modeling and Simulation.
SPPU UG admissions to affiliated colleges follow the Maharashtra State CET (MHT-CET) for engineering/pharmacy and merit for general degree programmes. PG admissions are conducted through SPPU's own entrance examination (PU OEE / Online Entrance Examination) for MA, M.Sc, M.Com, MCA, LLM, M.Ed and other PG programmes; CUET PG is also accepted for select departments. PhD admissions go through PET-PG plus interview.
