About Manipur University
Manipur University, established in 1980 as a state university by an Act of the Manipur state legislature and elevated to Central University status in 2005 by the Manipur University Act 2005 of Parliament, is the principal university of Manipur. Located at Canchipur (8 km from Imphal), the university serves as the apex centre for higher education and research in the state. The 287-acre campus is located in a picturesque setting at the foothills of the Langol range.
Manipur University has 32 teaching departments organised into 4 schools and faculties — Humanities, Sciences, Social Sciences, and Mathematical & Physical Sciences. The Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT — affiliated to MU), the Department of Manipuri language and the Department of North-East Indian Studies are flagship academic units. NAAC B+ accredited.
