About Kalahandi University

Kalahandi University, established in 2020 by an Act of the Odisha state legislature (continuing the legacy of Government Autonomous College Bhawanipatna founded in 1958), is a state university located at Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi district. The university serves Kalahandi, Nuapada and Balangir districts of western Odisha — a tribal and historically backward region. Kalahandi University was created to expand higher education access in the underserved western Odisha tribal belt.

Kalahandi University has 14 PG teaching departments organised into faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Sciences, Commerce and Education. The university maintains the historic Government Autonomous College Bhawanipatna heritage. Recognised by UGC under Section 2(f).
