About Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya
Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya (SJSV), established in 1981 by an Act of the Odisha state legislature, is the state Sanskrit university of Odisha. Located in Puri — one of the four cardinal Dhams of Hindu pilgrimage (the others being Badrinath, Dwarka, Rameswaram) and the home of the Jagannath Temple. The university is named after Lord Jagannath, the principal deity of the Puri Jagannath Temple.
SJSV has departments of Vyakarana (Grammar), Sahitya (Literature), Vedanta, Jyotisha, Dharmashastra, Ayurveda, Yoga, Sanskrit Computing, Performing Arts (Odissi dance, Odissi music), Comparative Philology and Manuscriptology. Offers Shastri (BA), Acharya (MA), Vidyavaridhi (PhD), Shiksha Shastri (BEd) and Diploma/Certificate programmes. The university has special programmes on Jagannath culture and Odia Sanskrit traditions.
UG/PG admissions through SJSV-conducted entrance and merit. CUET UG/PG accepted for select programmes. PhD through SJSV PhD entrance. Traditional pathshala graduates accepted with equivalence.
