About Utkal University of Culture

Utkal University of Culture (UUC), established in 1999 by an Act of the Odisha state legislature, is a state university dedicated to the study and propagation of Odia culture and Indian traditional arts. Located at Sansad Marg, Bhubaneswar, UUC was the first dedicated cultural university of Odisha — focusing on Odissi dance (one of the eight Indian classical dance forms), Odissi music, Pattachitra painting, traditional Odia textiles, performing arts and cultural studies.

UUC has 12 faculties — Odissi Dance, Odissi Music, Hindustani & Carnatic Music, Drama & Theatre, Visual Arts, Pattachitra & Folk Arts, Sanskrit & Pali, Comparative Religion, Cultural Studies, Tourism & Cultural Heritage, Indology, and Manuscriptology. Offers BA/MA/MPhil/PhD programmes in classical and folk Odia art forms.

Admissions through UUC-conducted aptitude test (performance audition) + interview. CUET UG/PG accepted for select theoretical programmes (Cultural Studies, Comparative Religion). PhD through UUC PhD entrance + research interview.

UUC Aptitude Test

Aptitude test (audition/performance test) is mandatory for all UG and PG admissions in classical Odissi dance, Odissi music, Pattachitra, theatre and visual arts. CUET UG/PG accepted for select theoretical programmes. PhD through UUC PhD entrance + interview.

UG: Plus Two pass + aptitude test/audition. PG: bachelor in relevant cultural form + aptitude test. PhD: PG 55% + entrance + research interview.
