About Guru Nanak Dev University
Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) is a public state university located in Amritsar, Punjab. Established on 24 November 1969 by the Punjab State Legislature to mark the 500th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, GNDU operates a 500-acre main campus on Grand Trunk Road and three regional campuses at Gurdaspur, Sathiala and Jalandhar. The university is accredited NAAC A++ and recognised as a "Category-I" university by UGC.
GNDU has 37 university teaching departments organised into 7 faculties — Arts & Social Sciences, Sciences, Languages, Education & Information Technology, Medical Sciences, Engineering & Technology, and Economics & Business. It offers 200+ UG, PG, MPhil and PhD programmes plus a strong distance-education programme through the Directorate of Online Studies. The university hosts notable centres for Sikh studies, Punjabi literature, life sciences and emerging technology.
Most GNDU UG/PG admissions are merit-based on qualifying-examination marks. B.Tech admissions follow JEE Main; MBA accepts CMAT/MAT; LLB has its own entrance. PhD admissions are through the GNDU PhD entrance plus interview. Distance education programmes accept applications throughout the academic year.
