About Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University
Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (PSOU), established in 2019 by an Act of the Punjab state legislature, is the state open university of Punjab. Headquartered at Patiala, PSOU is named in honour of Guru Nanak Dev — the founder of Sikhism — and provides Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online education to learners across Punjab and beyond. The university was established to fill the long-felt need for a dedicated open university in Punjab.
PSOU offers UG (BA, BCom, BBA, BCA, BSc), PG (MA, MCom, MSc, MBA, MCA, MSW), MPhil, PhD, Certificate and Diploma programmes through ODL and online modes. The university has regional centres across Punjab and study centres in major districts. Recognised by UGC-DEB (Distance Education Bureau) for ODL and online programmes.
Admissions are rolling — two intakes annually (January and July cycles). UG admissions on Plus Two pass basis; PG on bachelor degree basis. No entrance for most programmes; merit-based with relaxation for SC/ST/PwBD.
