About Punjabi University
Punjabi University (PUP) is a public state university located in Patiala, Punjab. Established on 30 April 1962 by the Punjab Government through the Punjabi University Act, the university was originally founded with the primary aim of advancing Punjabi language, literature and culture. PUP has since grown into a multi-disciplinary university with 75+ teaching and research departments and 200+ affiliated colleges across the Patiala, Mansa, Bathinda and Sangrur regions.
PUP has 7 faculties — Arts & Culture, Languages, Sciences, Business Studies, Education & Information Sciences, Engineering & Technology, and Medicine — offering UG, PG, MPhil and PhD programmes. The university hosts notable schools including the Punjabi University Patiala Yadavindra College of Engineering (YCoE) at Talwandi Sabo, the University Business School (UBS) and the Department of Religious Studies.
Most Punjabi University UG and PG admissions are merit-based on qualifying-examination marks. B.Tech admissions follow JEE Main; MBA accepts CMAT/MAT; PG and PhD programmes conduct department-level entrance examinations where applicable. The university also offers a strong distance-education programme through the Directorate of Distance Education.
