About Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology
Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET) is a private deemed university located in Patiala, Punjab. Founded in 1956 as the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology by the Thapar industrial family, it was granted Deemed-to-be-University status in 1985 under Section 3 of the UGC Act. TIET operates a 250-acre campus and is consistently among India's top private deemed universities for engineering in NIRF rankings.
TIET has 4 schools — Engineering & Technology, Mathematics, Energy & Environment, and Management (LM Thapar School of Management). It offers B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, MCA and PhD programmes spanning Computer Science & Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics & Communication, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Biotechnology, Production, and several emerging disciplines such as Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. The university has academic partnerships with the Trinity College Dublin and University of Wisconsin-Madison.
TIET B.Tech admissions follow a unique two-mode model — 50% of seats are filled based on JEE Main percentile and 50% based on Class 12 normalised marks. A single application form covers both modes. M.Tech admissions are GATE-based; MBA admits through CAT/MAT/Thapar test; PhD goes via the TIET PhD entrance plus interview.
