About Sikkim Manipal University
Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), established in 1995 by an Act of the Sikkim state legislature as a unique public-private partnership between the Government of Sikkim and the Manipal Group, is one of India's earliest PPP universities. Headquartered at 5th Mile, Tadong, Gangtok, SMU is a private deemed-equivalent state university and was the first university of Sikkim. SMU is part of the broader Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG).
SMU has multiple faculties — Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS — flagship medical college with 750-bed Central Referral Hospital), Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT — engineering), and Faculty of Distance Education (one of India's largest distance education programmes). NAAC accredited.
MBBS through NEET UG with All-India Counselling; MD/MS through NEET PG; B.Tech through JEE Main/MET (Manipal Entrance Test); MBA through CAT/CMAT/MET. Distance education through SMU-DDE direct admissions. PhD through SMU PhD entrance.
