About Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), established in 1982 by the Andhra Pradesh Open University Act 1982 and renamed in 1991 in honour of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (chief architect of the Indian Constitution), is the open university serving Telangana (continuing from the united Andhra Pradesh era). Located at Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, BRAOU was the first Open University in India and the third in the world (preceded only by the UK Open University and Allama Iqbal Open University Pakistan).

BRAOU offers UG (BA, BCom, BBA, BCA, BSc), PG (MA, MCom, MSc, MBA, MCA, MSW), MPhil, PhD, Certificate and Diploma programmes through ODL and online modes. The university has 8 regional centres and 200+ study centres across Telangana. UGC-DEB recognised for ODL.

Admissions are rolling — two intakes annually (January and July cycles). UG on Plus Two pass basis; PG on bachelor degree. No entrance for most; merit-based with relaxation for SC/ST.
