About Maulana Azad National Urdu University

Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), established in 1998 by the MANUU Act 1996 of Parliament (operational from 1998), is a Central University dedicated to Urdu language education and the educational empowerment of the Urdu-speaking community in India. Headquartered at Gachibowli, Hyderabad, MANUU is one of the two Central Urdu universities in India (the other being Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi for higher Urdu studies). The university is named after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad — the first Education Minister of independent India.

MANUU has 11 schools — Languages, Linguistics & Indology; Arts & Social Sciences; Commerce & Business Management; Education & Training; Computer Science & Information Technology; Sciences; Mass Communication & Journalism; Open Learning; Polytechnic; Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs); and the College of Teacher Education. The university has Regional Centres at Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Patna, Bhopal, Cuttack and Srinagar. Urdu is the primary medium of instruction. NAAC accredited.

UG admissions through CUET UG (Urdu medium for select programmes), PG through CUET PG or MANUU PG entrance, and PhD through CUET PhD or MANUU PhD entrance. Urdu language proficiency required for most programmes.
