Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), established in 1989 as an autonomous Institute and given university status in 1989 by an Act of the Andhra Pradesh state legislature (continued under Telangana state legislature after 2014), is a state-funded super-speciality medical institute and university. Located at Punjagutta, Hyderabad, NIMS is one of India's premier government medical institutions and continues the legacy of the Nizam Orthopaedic Hospital established by the Nizam of Hyderabad.
NIMS has departments across medical, surgical and super-speciality fields — Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Urology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Plastic Surgery, Critical Care, Pulmonology, Dermatology, Psychiatry. The NIMS Hospital is a 800-bed multi-speciality tertiary care institution. Offers MBBS-PG, DM, MCh, PhD programmes through NEET PG / INI-CET / NEET SS routes.
No UG (MBBS) — NIMS is PG/super-speciality only. MD/MS through NEET PG; DM/MCh through NEET SS; INI-CET parallel for some PG seats; PhD through NIMS PhD entrance.
