About Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University

Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University (PSTU), established in 1985 by an Act of the Andhra Pradesh state legislature (continued under Telangana state after 2014), is the state university dedicated to Telugu language, literature and culture. Headquartered at Public Gardens, Hyderabad, PSTU is named after Potti Sreeramulu — the freedom fighter who died fasting in 1952 for the formation of a separate Andhra State for Telugu speakers (paving the way for linguistic reorganisation of Indian states).

PSTU has departments of Telugu Language & Literature, Comparative Literature, Linguistics, Folklore, Performing Arts (Telugu cinema, theatre, music — Carnatic and Telugu folk), Translation Studies, Indian Languages, and History. Offers UG, PG, MPhil and PhD programmes in Telugu and Indian Studies. Regional campuses at Srisailam, Rajamahendravaram and Kuchipudi (the village that gave birth to Kuchipudi classical dance).

Admissions through PSTU-conducted aptitude test (for performing arts) and merit (for theoretical programmes). CUET UG/PG accepted for select programmes. PhD through PSTU PhD entrance.
