About Aligarh Muslim University
Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is a public central university in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. AMU traces its origin to the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College founded by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in 1875, which was incorporated as Aligarh Muslim University by an Act of the Imperial Legislative Council in 1920. It is one of India's oldest residential universities, with a sprawling 467-hectare main campus at Aligarh and additional campuses at Murshidabad (West Bengal), Malappuram (Kerala) and Kishanganj (Bihar).
AMU has 13 faculties and over 100 departments offering 200+ programmes across UG, PG, diploma, certificate and PhD levels — including arts, sciences, social sciences, commerce, law, theology, life sciences, agricultural sciences, engineering and technology (Zakir Husain College of Engineering), medicine (Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College), unani medicine, dentistry and management.
AMU UG and PG admissions in 2026 are conducted through a combination of CUET UG / CUET PG and AMU's own internal entrance tests (AMUEE for engineering and select programmes; AMULAT and other programme-specific tests for law, medical, education and others). NEET UG/PG governs admissions to JNMC. Application is online at amucontrollerexams.com.
