About Bhatkhande Music Institute
Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (formerly Bhatkhande Music Institute), established in 1926 by Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande (the eminent musicologist) and declared a Deemed-to-be University in 2000 under the UGC Act (renamed in 2024 to Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya), is a private deemed university dedicated to Hindustani classical music and arts. Located at Kaiserbagh, Lucknow, BMI was originally established as Marris College of Hindustani Music in 1926 and is one of India's oldest music institutions.
Bhatkhande has departments of Hindustani Vocal Music, Sitar, Sarangi, Sarod, Tabla, Pakhawaj, Kathak Dance, Bharatnatyam, Music Theory & Musicology. Offers BMu, MMu, MPhil and PhD programmes. Pandit Bhatkhande himself developed the modern notation system for Hindustani music here.
Admissions through Bhatkhande Aptitude Test (performance audition) + interview. Plus Two marks accepted for theoretical programmes. PhD through Bhatkhande PhD entrance.
