Bundelkhand University, established in 1975 by an Act of the UP state legislature, is a state university located at Jhansi. The university serves the Bundelkhand region of UP — Jhansi, Jalaun, Lalitpur, Hamirpur and Mahoba districts. Jhansi is historically significant as the kingdom of Rani Lakshmi Bai during the 1857 Indian Rebellion.
