About Harcourt Butler Technical University
Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU), established in 2016 by an Act of the UP state legislature (continuing the legacy of Harcourt Butler Technical Institute founded in 1921), is a state technological university located at Kanpur. The institute is named after Sir Harcourt Butler — the British administrator who established the original HBTI in 1921. HBTU is one of UP's oldest technical institutions.
HBTU has 8 departments — Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, and Oil Technology (a unique programme). Strong programmes in Chemical Engineering and Oil Technology (Kanpur is industrial hub). NAAC accredited.
B.Tech admissions through JEE Main + UPCET. M.Tech through GATE; MBA through UPCET/CMAT. PhD through HBTU PhD entrance.
