About King George Medical University
King George's Medical University (KGMU), established in 1911 as King George's Medical College and elevated to state university status in 2002 (operational 2004), is one of India's oldest medical colleges and the apex state medical university of UP. Located at Shahmina Road, Chowk, Lucknow, KGMU is named after King George V of the United Kingdom (who laid the foundation stone). KGMU operates a 4000-bed multi-speciality teaching hospital. NAAC A+ accredited.
KGMU has 53 departments across medical, surgical, dental, paramedical and super-speciality fields. The university offers MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, MD/MS, MDS, MCh/DM, PhD programmes. Famous alumni: Dr. Anandi Gopal Joshi (Indian women medicine pioneer), Padma Vibhushan recipients, multiple state Health Ministers.
