About University of Lucknow
University of Lucknow, established on 25 November 1921 by the Lucknow University Act 1920, is a state university and one of the oldest universities of India established before independence. Located at the picturesque campus on the banks of the Gomti River in Lucknow, the university was originally established by the Maharaja of Mehmoodabad and the University of Allahabad's influence. Lucknow University has a rich heritage — alumni include former Presidents of India (Sahibzada Saheb Singh Verma, V.V. Giri), Prime Ministers (Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Chandra Shekhar), Nobel laureate Har Gobind Khorana, and many Bharat Ratna recipients.
University of Lucknow has 45 teaching departments organised into 11 faculties — Arts, Commerce, Education, Engineering & Technology, Fine Arts, Law, Management, Medicine, Sciences, Social Sciences, and Yoga & Naturopathy. It affiliates 175+ colleges across central UP. NAAC A++ accredited (Cycle 4, 2023). The Lucknow University Faculty of Law is one of India's oldest law schools.
