About Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith
Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith (MGKV), established in 1921 by Pt. Shiv Prasad Gupta and Dr. Bhagwan Das as a national university (founded during the non-cooperation movement to provide Indian-medium higher education as alternative to British system) and given state university status in 1974, is one of India's oldest universities. Located at Banaras (Varanasi), the university was founded with Gandhi's blessings and named "Kashi Vidyapith" (Knowledge of Kashi). Mahatma Gandhi added "Mahatma" prefix later. MGKV played a major role in the freedom movement.
MGKV has 18 teaching departments organised into faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Sciences, Commerce, Education and Performing Arts. It affiliates 100+ UG colleges across the Varanasi-Mirzapur-Sonebhadra region. NAAC accredited.
UG admissions through state centralised on Plus Two merit. PG through MGKV PG entrance or CUET PG. PhD through MGKV PhD entrance.
