About Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University

Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU) is a public state-funded national law university located at Sector D-1, LDA Colony, Kanpur Road in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Established in 2005 by the Uttar Pradesh Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University Act, 2005, it is one of the leading national law universities in India and a member of the Consortium of National Law Universities.

The university offers a 5-year integrated BA LLB (Hons) programme with 169 seats, a 1-year LLM programme with 24 seats, and PhD programmes across constitutional law, criminal law, intellectual property law, international law, family law, environmental law and other specialisations. RMLNLU is housed on a 50-acre residential campus on the outskirts of Lucknow.

RMLNLU admissions to BA LLB (Hons) and LLM are conducted through CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) administered by the Consortium of National Law Universities. CLAT 2026 was conducted on 7 December 2025 with results declared on 16 December 2025. PhD admissions are via a separate RMLNLU research entrance.

CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is the sole entrance for RMLNLU BA LLB (Hons) and LLM admissions. CLAT is conducted by the Consortium of NLUs in December for the next academic year's admissions. CLAT 2026 was held on 7 December 2025; counselling for NLU seat allotment is run separately by the Consortium.

Eligibility

BA LLB (Hons): Class 10+2 from a recognised board with at least 45% (40% for SC/ST/PwBD); valid CLAT 2026 UG rank for an RMLNLU seat. LLM: a 5-year integrated LLB or 3-year LLB degree with at least 55% (50% for SC/ST/PwBD); valid CLAT PG 2026 rank. PhD: a Master's in Law or related discipline with at least 55% (50% for SC/ST/PwBD) and qualifying RMLNLU PhD entrance plus interview.

Scholarships are available for eligible candidates at this university.

RMLNLU offers merit-based scholarships, fee concessions for SC/ST/OBC/EWS students through Government of India Post-Matric scholarship schemes via the National Scholarship Portal, the Single Girl Child concession and assistantship-based support for PhD scholars.

Reservations

Reservation per Government of India and Uttar Pradesh state norms: SC 15%, ST 7.5%, OBC-NCL 27%, EWS 10%, PwBD 5% horizontal. RMLNLU also reserves seats for Uttar Pradesh domiciles and follows the Consortium's reserved-category norms in CLAT counselling.
