About Forest Research Institute
Forest Research Institute (FRI), established in 1906 as the Imperial Forest Research Institute and declared a Deemed-to-be University in 1991 under the UGC Act, is India's premier forest research institute. Located at New Forest Campus, Dehradun, FRI is the apex national institute for forestry research under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The 450-acre campus is itself a heritage site with extensive forest cover.
FRI has 9 research divisions — Forest Botany, Silviculture, Forest Ecology, Forest Genetics, Forest Pathology, Forest Entomology, Forest Products, Wood Science & Technology, and Non-Wood Forest Products. Offers MSc Forestry, MSc Wood Science & Technology, MSc Forest Pathology, MSc Environmental Science, and PhD programmes.
Admissions to PG/PhD through FRI Entrance + interview. CUET PG accepted for select programmes. PhD through FRI PhD entrance + research interview.
