About University of Kalyani
University of Kalyani (KU), Kalyani was established in 1960 by an Act of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, primarily to serve the academic needs of the Nadia district and adjoining regions north of Kolkata. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The main campus is located in Kalyani town, Nadia district, spread over 400 acres along the Kalyani-Krishnanagar route — making it one of the largest single-campus universities in eastern India.
University of Kalyani has Faculty Councils of Arts & Commerce, Science, Education, Engineering, Technology & Management, and Music & Fine Arts. Programmes include BA/MA in Bengali, English, Sanskrit, Hindi, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Geography, Anthropology, Mass Communication; BSc/MSc in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences, Zoology, Botany, Computer Science, Geological Sciences; BTech/M.Tech in Computer Science, ECE, EE and IT; B.Com/M.Com; BFA/MFA in Painting, Graphics, Sculpture; B.Mus/M.Mus in Vocal/Instrumental; LLB/LLM; BEd/M.Ed; and PhD. KU also offers professional programmes through its Department of Business Administration (MBA) and Department of Library & Information Science. Admissions are via CUET UG/PG for most programmes; engineering via WBJEE; LLB via WB Common Entrance Test for Law.
University of Kalyani is NAAC A grade accredited and is widely recognised as one of West Bengal's leading state universities. The university has affiliated colleges across Nadia district and is a major research hub in molecular biology, microbiology, statistics, Bengali literature and Indo-Tibetan studies. The Kalyani township grew around the university, and the integrated 400-acre campus offers separate hostels for boys, girls and international students, a central library with 4.5 lakh+ titles, Kalyani Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CGEB), the Heritage Conservation Centre, and academic exchanges with universities in Bangladesh, Japan and the UK.
