About Chanakya National Law University

Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) is a National Law University located at Mithapur, Patna in Bihar, established by the Chanakya National Law University Act, 2006 of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. CNLU is one of India's premier National Law Universities and is named after the ancient strategist and political philosopher Chanakya (Kautilya).

CNLU offers a 5-year integrated B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), one-year LL.M., Diploma and Ph.D programmes in law. Admission to BA LLB and LLM is through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT UG / CLAT PG) conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities, with subsequent CLAT counselling and university-side registration.

CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) UG and PG are conducted by the Consortium of NLUs for admission to BA LLB (Hons) and LLM at participating National Law Universities including CNLU Patna. CLAT 2026 was held on 7 December 2025; CLAT 2027 is expected late 2026.

Eligibility

How to Apply

    Create an account on consortiumofnlus.ac.in, complete the CLAT UG / PG application and pay the CLAT fee (₹4000 General; ₹3500 SC/ST/BPL).

    CLAT is a single offline test; CLAT 2026 was held on 7 December 2025.

    NLU centralised counselling
    After CLAT result, fill CNLU as a preference in the centralised CLAT counselling and lock seat through the consortium portal.

    Final admission at CNLU
    Allotted candidates pay the CNLU admission fee, complete document verification and report to the Mithapur campus, Patna.
