About Patna University
Patna University (PU) is a state university located in Patna, Bihar, established in 1917 — the seventh-oldest university in the Indian subcontinent and the oldest in Bihar. Originally functioning as an affiliating university of the Eastern region, PU was reconstituted as a teaching-cum-residential university in 1962 and now operates from the historic Mahendru and Saidpur campuses in Patna.
Patna University offers UG, PG, M.Phil and Ph.D programmes across humanities, social sciences, sciences, commerce, management, education and law through 9 faculties and 35 postgraduate departments / centres. UG and PG admissions are conducted through the Patna University Entrance Test (PUET) — a programme-specific entrance test for several courses, with the balance through merit on the qualifying examination.
For 2026-27, PUET UG is scheduled for 12-14 June 2026 and PUET PG for 8-12 July 2026. Application opens 1 April 2026; the application fee is approximately ₹1100. The official admission portal is at pup.ac.in.
