About Punjab Engineering College
Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh — popularly known as PEC — is a deemed-to-be university and one of India's oldest engineering institutes, originally founded in 1921 as Mugalpura Engineering College in Lahore (undivided India). After Partition the college shifted to East Punjab, settled briefly at Roorkee, and finally relocated to Sector 12, Chandigarh in 1953. PEC was conferred deemed-to-be university status in October 2003 by the MHRD (now Ministry of Education).
PEC offers B.Tech (with branches including CSE, ECE, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Aerospace, Materials & Metallurgical, Production), B.Des, M.Tech, MBA and Ph.D programmes through more than 12 academic departments. B.Tech admission for Indian nationals is through JEE Main + JoSAA centralised counselling; foreign nationals / NRIs / OCIs / PIOs admit through DASA. M.Tech admission requires a valid GATE score with subsequent CCMT counselling. Ph.D admission is through the PEC Research Entrance Test plus interview.
PEC has a sanctioned intake of 850 B.Tech, 30 B.Des and 278 M.Tech seats. The 2026-27 admission cycle uses JEE Main 2026 (NTA) for B.Tech / B.Des; the JoSAA counselling schedule will be released on josaa.nic.in. The official portal is at pec.ac.in.
