About Alagappa University
Alagappa University is a public state university located in Karaikudi, Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu. Established in 1985 through an Act of the Tamil Nadu State Legislature, the university is named after the philanthropist and educationist Dr Alagappa Chettiar. The university is recognised by UGC under Section 12(B) and is accredited with NAAC A++ grade.
Alagappa University has 39 departments, 6 schools and the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE). It offers 100+ programmes across UG, PG, MPhil and PhD levels in arts, science, commerce, education (Alagappa University College of Education), management (Alagappa Institute of Management), physical education, marine sciences, computer science, and tamil studies. The university also has a strong distance-education programme offered through CDOE.
Most Alagappa University admissions are merit-based, with entrance examinations conducted at Karaikudi for select programmes including B.Ed, M.Sc, MBA and MCA. PG and PhD admissions accept TANCET / UGC-NET scores where applicable.
