About Anna University

Anna University is a public state technical university located on Sardar Patel Road, Guindy, Chennai. Established by the Tamil Nadu Government on 4 September 1978 by amalgamating four illustrious institutions — College of Engineering Guindy (CEG, est. 1794), Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Alagappa College of Technology and the School of Architecture & Planning — Anna University is one of the largest technical universities in India and the affiliating body for hundreds of engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu.

The university has 12 university departments at its main Chennai campus organised under three constituent colleges (CEG, MIT, ACT) and the School of Architecture & Planning, with 600+ affiliated engineering colleges and university constituent colleges. Anna University offers UG, PG and PhD programmes in engineering & technology, sciences, humanities, management (DOMS), architecture & planning, and applied sciences.

Anna University's engineering admissions for the entire state of Tamil Nadu — TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission) — are conducted by Anna University's Centre for Admissions and are based on Class 12 marks (no entrance exam). PG engineering and management admissions accept TANCET 2026 scores (also conducted by Anna University), and the university conducts its own department-level entrance for select PG programmes and PhD.
