About Bharathidasan University
Bharathidasan University is a public state university located at Khajamalai Campus, Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), Tamil Nadu. Established by the Tamil Nadu Government in 1982, the university was named in honour of the celebrated Tamil poet "Bharathidasan" (Kanaka Subburatnam). It serves as the affiliating university for over 100 colleges in central Tamil Nadu, with main campuses at Khajamalai and Palkalaiperur.
BDU has 38 university departments organised across 16 schools, plus 7 constituent colleges and 100+ affiliated colleges. It offers 200+ UG, PG, MPhil and PhD programmes spanning humanities, sciences, social sciences, education, computer science, engineering, management, communication and marine biology. The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) extends UG and PG programmes via online and distance modes.
BDU full-time UG/PG admissions are conducted online through the BDU OMS portal (oms.bdu.ac.in). MBA admissions accept TANCET 2026 scores; PhD admissions are through the BDU PhD entrance examination. Distance education for the July 2026 session begins 10 May 2026 with last date 31 July 2026.
