About Chennai Mathematical Institute
Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI), established in 1989 as the SPIC Mathematical Institute and declared a Deemed-to-be University in 2006 under the UGC Act, is a unique private deemed university dedicated exclusively to mathematics, theoretical computer science, mathematical physics and data science. Located at Plot No H1, SIPCOT IT Park, Siruseri, CMI was founded by Prof. C.S. Seshadri. CMI is renowned globally for its rigorous undergraduate and research programmes in mathematics and is among the most selective universities in India.
CMI has departments of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics. Offers BSc (Honours) in Mathematics & Computer Science, Mathematics & Physics, Physics (with research integrated); MSc Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematical Physics; PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics. CMI maintains close ties with TIFR Mumbai and IMSc Chennai. NAAC accredited.
Admissions through CMI Entrance Examination — written test (May) + interview (June). Olympiad medallists (IMO/INMO/INPhO/IOI/INOI) get direct admission. PhD through CMI PhD entrance + interview.
